The distinctive logo of the Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC) was the creative work of Nigerian-born fine artist, graphic designer, actor and model Lasbrey Nwachukwu. When he accepted this challenge to depict the new organization in a unique and memorable way, he researched the Arabic word for woman. In its colloquial form, marrah, and formal form, imraah, the characters of the word gave Lasbrey creative inspiration. He stylized the letters and placed them on a field of blue.

The second of eight brothers, the 26-year old Lasbrey came to America to study art in 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in 2006. He will begin work on a Master of Fine Arts at Kansas State University in January 2008. Lasbrey’s dream is to return home to Nigeria to establish an art and production studio.
